  • The selected window layout does not match…

Posted by Martin Nelson on November 16, 2010 at 10:33 pm

I have four custom layouts (Window>Arrange) I cycle through all day long. One arrangement blows up the Canvas to the size of one of my monitors, one the Viewer, one lays out to a standard two-monitor configuration and one, well, I don’t use the fourth one much so never mind.

Anyway, I’m cutting along happily all day, switching from one layout to another just fine and then, just now, I hit one of the shortcuts to switch the layout and I get:

The selected window layout does not match your display configuration. Would you like to continue using it anyway?

If I click OK then my monitors rearrange to the desired layout exactly as they should, but this message pops up every time. I have not changed my Monitor Display resolutions in the System Settings nor have I knowingly done anything else to cause this. My monitors display as they have always.

I suppose I could trash these settings and create them over again, but what I’d really like is to know what caused this so I can prevent it from happening again. Is there a shortcut I might have hit unintentionally that could have affected my display configuration? Something else?

I figured this out and thought I’d share.

At some point yesterday I must have accidentally used the key combination of OPT+CMD+D. This turns on or, in my case, off Dock Hiding. I typically keep the Dock hidden and my custom layouts use up all of the monitor space. When I turned off Dock Hiding my custom layouts could no longer fit in their configured space and so I received the message.

    User erringly,
