    G’morning,

I’ve received a hard drive of footage from another production house. FCP didn’t like these files when I tried to import them, so I opened them in Quicktime to see what the deal is and they are AVC-Intra 50Mbps 1440X1080 1080i60.

Once I try to open once of these clips in Quicktime, Quicktime suggests taking me to a link to download a plug-in, however, none of these plug-ins seems to have anything to do with AVC-Intra:

    https://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html?os=OSX&ctype=696d6463&csubtype=61693536

Any ideas on how I can use this footage in FCP? I was surprised these were AVC-Intra because I know FCP transcodes these to ProRes. So I’m guessing the post house who sent the footage is not using FCP. I attempted to transcode to DVCPro HD in Compressor, but that didn’t work, which I expected since these clips don’t open in QT.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Fcp7 has a native avc-I decoder. You must run fcs3 in order for this to work, though.

Sweet. This plug-in is allowing me to view the clips in Quicktime, however, it is only showing a blank white screen when viewed in FCP. Is this because I’ve only downloaded the trial version at this point? It says on their site that V1.1.0 “no longer loads in Final Cut Pro, SoundTrack Pro, LiveType, DVD Studio Pro, Compressor, Color, Cinema Tools”

Also, when you say it won’t be rt in FCP, Jeremy, do you mean that it just won’t play back in real-time, but once I export my timeline (most likely DVCPro HD) everything will play just fine?

    hey rob,
I guess you just need the AVC-intra-quicktime-component, that will be found in library>quicktime

maybe you know someone who have installed FCP7 and could give it to you.

    It´s worth a try.

    cheers

If you transcode it to something that FCP6 likes, then yes, it will be a different codec at that point.

    Hi Rob,

By default Calibrated{Q} AVC-Intra Decode for OSX does not load in FCP or FC Studio apps; however you can enable support for FCP6 and FC Studio2 applications in the Calibrated{Q} AVC-Intra Decode Options application.

See the User Guide – both pages 9 and page 14 – for explanations.

    Cheers,

Daniel, Not a bad idea, but I don’t know anyone with FCP7. But I appreciate the input anyway

    Jeremy, understood.

Greg, I’ll give it a shot.

    Thanks a lot guys
