Sub-frame editing in timeline?
Hey Guys,
If I take an audio clip into the viewer, I can hold down shift and move through the clip what I could call “subframe”.
How do I do this in the timeline?
If I load the clip into the viewer from the timeline, I can do the same and then set a new in-point and it adjusts appropriately in the timeline, but I can’t figure out how to move in the timeline with the same “subframe” navigation.

The software won’t allow for this. Hey double click, adjust in viewer… it’s not that much of a chore… It’s the way it’s designed to be done.

Thanks for the clarification Jerry, no worries on having to double click…I was just wondering if there was a way…didn’t figure there was since we have to work within the structure of “frame-by-frame” editing.

That’d be pretty impossible since there’s only 24 or 60 or however you shot, frames per second.
Audio, on the other hand, has 48,000 samples per second give or take. That’s a lot more instances than 24 or 60. 😉

Most editors I work with leave the sub frame stuff to us in audio post. DAWs have sample accurate editing. @ 24 frames there are 2,000 edit point in each frame on a DAW so mucking around in FCP is a waste of time. Also the OMF process from FCP will likely place the edit on a frame boundary anyway regardless of what you do.
