I’m trying to export a full screen 3 minute QT from an old version of Final Cut Pro on to AE for PC. I’ve tried exporting QT’s in Sorenson and a few other codecs, but everytime I put it on the PC, it says it isn’t a valid QT file, and that AE can’t open it. Am I using the wrong codec? Is it a Mac/PC issue? Is the file too big?

Are you making the file self-contained? Do so if not.

If your Windows drive is formatted to FAT32, you have a 4GB files size limit on that drive.
If the drive is NTFS, Mac can’t write to it.

Solution? Figure out how much of the file needs to be exported to keep it under 4GB, and export segments of that length or smaller. Reassemble in AE.

But that may not be the problem. Did you try rendering to the Animation codec? You should use a high-quality codec, not something like Sorenson.

Is the filename under 30 characters?
Does it have a MOV extension?

Good answer! Didn’t think of that!

They can over a network… go figure.
