FCP 7 Weirdness!
I may be missing something really obvious, but this problem is driving me crazy.
I recently upgraded from FCP 6 to FCP 7, and am currently working on a project that is ProRes 422(HQ), 1280x720p
Everything was fine within FCP 6, but in FCP 7 it now seems to want all my footage to be 1440×1080.
When I change my sequence settings, it scales (or doesn’t scale) everything (essentially zooming it in).
To work with my old project it seems like I have to render everything, which will take days.
How can I get FCP 7 to recognise my 1280x720p project?
I have tried changing my sequence settings to 720p but it zooms in my footage.
I have toggled the “always scale clips to sequence size” in the preferences window, but it makes no difference.Can anyone please please tell me what I need to do to edit my 720p project, (that worked great in FCP 6) without having to render in FCP 7?
I apologise if I am missing something basic, and thank you geniuses in advance. This is driving me nuts!

It seems clear from your post that you are woking in a Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1280×720 sequence, but its not clear if your source clips match that format.
What are your sources for this project and where did they come from.If your sources are 16:9 and you just want everything to conform to your 720p sequence then you can select everything in the sequence and choose Modify menu > Conform to Sequence. To reduce the render demands you should click the RT button at top left of the timeline window and switch the setting to “Unlimited RT” … but beyond that, unless your source footage matches your sequence codec and settings then you will certainly have some rendering ahead of you (but this would be the case regardless of your FCP version).

Hi Andy, thanks for the reply.
I am cutting footage shot at 720p on a 7d, then converted to 720p prores 422(HQ)
I started cutting the footage in FCP6, with my sequence setting matching the footage’s size and codec.
I upgraded my FCP6 to FCP7 yesterday (maybe not the smartest move mid-project), and now when I open the project file in FCP7, the sequence setting has reverted to 1920x1080i, hence the need for the render I guess?
When I try to change the sequence’s size to 720p to match the original footage, it zooms all of the footage in, and I have no idea how to stop it from doing this.
Any ideas?

You can do the same thing … select all and choose Modify menu > Conform to Sequence (or Scale to Sequence)
Or you can select all and choose Edit menu > Remove Attributes and tick the “Scale” attributeMake a copy of your sequence first (always do this) and then go ahead ad try it 🙂

Thank you Andy, conforming to sequence did the trick.
It didn’t work the first couple of times, but when I shut down and restarted it did what it’s meant to.
