Exporting time in compressor takes 7-12!? (Hd to pal) help!
I\\\\\\\’ve been exporting through comprossor for a while, but have recently had it with export time which takes 7-12 hours!! Hope someone can give me a helping tip or 2 on how to make export time shorter. I edit a weekly 25 min. show shot HD on 5d Mark II at 23.97/sometimes 30, in which I have to place into a PAL sequence. And from there export using compressor- I really hope I\’m doing something wrong and that it shouldn\’t really take this much time. Also does anyone know if nesting layers helps with export time? (i don\’t see it making much sense, but does it?) Any tips/suggestions would be super appreciated! Thanks!
video format: PAL(4:3), file format: mpeg, encoder format: m2v, fr: 25 (pal), average bit rate: 6 mbps, max bit rate:8mbps, mode:two pass VBR, extras: multiplexed MPEG-1/layer 2 audio- program stream, 2channel mpeg audio- 48.000khz

Sounds about right for a frame rate conversion, plus rescaling to SD frame size. Why are you shooting 23.98 or 30 if the final is 25? Frame rate conversion is really time consuming to render properly.
Apart from improving the workflow, the only way to speed up compressor is to enable as many cores as possible using Qmaster and have an up to date grunty MacPro.

Though it sounds counterintuitive, do not try to do this in one step.
Downconvert to ProRes or Uncompressed to do the frame rate conversion.. Then take the resulting file and do the MPEG-2 encode. It will be MANY times faster.
