  I have final Cut pro installed on my Mac Book pro laptop but i had to send it in to get serviced.

  Therefore I installed the SAME final cut pro studio that i have on my laptop on my IMAC. However when I hook up my external hard and try to open up a project from my hard drive that i started on my laptop it reads this message “files format is too new for this version of this application” I don’t understand because its the same version

  Can anyone help me with this, thank you.

  Maybe check to make sure you have all updates and patches installed.

  Update software update untill there are no updates left. All of them.
