log & capture
Hi
I am ‘log and capturing’ 30 hours of footage onto FCP. FCP is creating a new file everytime the camera was turned off and on when filming – often this is up to 50 different shots per tape and I would much prefer to have only a couple of large files per tape. In the prefs I have deselected ‘report dropped frames during play back and ‘abort capture on dropped frames’ and selected ‘warn after capture’. Does anyone have any idea how I can change the prefs or what to do to capture all the footage in a large file?? Any help would be much appreciated.many thanks

Two questions before you can get an answer:
1. Are you using Firewire to capture (from either a camera or a deck)?
2. Does your tape have time code breaks?-trevor ward

Yes, I am using firewire from a Sony Z1 camera and NO I don’t have any timecode breaks in tapes – it just seems to log each separate shot as a new file.

What format are you capturing?

Hmmm. I don’t know then. I know iMovie does that sort of thing, unless you uncheck an option box. I didn’t think FCP did that.
Have you tried logging your clips first, then doing a batch capture? Or are you using Capture Now?

In Log and Capture with HDV, there is a little check box in one of the tabs to enable a new clip on camera stop starts. Uncheck this if you want to capture long clips
