  FCP 7 XDCAM EX timeline weirdness

  Hello:

  I am experiencing a quirk in playback, where if I scale the timeline up or down during playback of an XDCAM EX 24p sequence, I get a spinning beachball and quite a delay — and then the timeline eventually resizes and catches up to the playback position. Also, sometimes the beachball occurs when I press stop — the sequence keeps playing for awhile, with the beachball spinning, then eventually stops.

  I’m working with an MX02 mini for playout, on a Westmere Octo 2.4 with 14 GBs of RAM and a 5870 video card, with all the latest/greatest software/drivers. I’ve tried the same thing on a DV sequence and it doesn’t exhibit any of these issues — with same hardware configuration.

  Any ideas what I can do to improve the situation? Kind of a drag when you’re with a client and you hit stop and FCP keeps playing…

  Make sure the Raid drivers/firmware is up to date. You can also try to hide FCP, then unhide and see if your performance comes back.

  Hi, thanks for your response.

  I’m starting to think it’s an issue with the Matrox MX02 mini, because when I set the playback option to none — not using the MX02 — the timeline functions perfectly. So somehow, the Matrox may be causing the computer to bog down. I’ve posted on the Matrox COW forum to see if I can get any advice there.
