  • Recommendations – Building a Brand New Final Cut Pro HD Editing & Finishing Suite

    Hello All!

I’m going to be building a brand new Apple Final Cut Pro editing and finishing Suite. I’m hoping some people can recommend some options. There is really no limit to the budget. Most of the content that will be produced with this suite will be short form commercial work and delivered via Extreme Reach digital broadcast delivery, so there is no need for any type of broadcast tape deck. However, I will need proper HD output to a HD broadcast monitor for propor colour correction. There will also be a lot of After Effects work done on this suite so the more power/ram the better. I’m curious what people can recommend based on their experience with specific hardware ie: Storage reliability, video cards etc…

Please recommend: Mac Pro CPU, ram, video cards, computer monitors, all audio hardware that would be necessary for mixing final sound, a broadcast HD monitor, a fairly large redundant storage solution and anything else that I might be missing.

    I found this online: https://www.tvprogear.com/product/Final-Cut-Pro-Premier-System,1484.aspx

but I’m curious what people have to say about the video card as I will not need to
interface with any type of HD broadcast tape deck. Just HD monitor output for colour correction.

    Looking forward to your recommendations.

    Many Thanks,

    Adam

Regarding output, I’m afraid there aren’t many options for output ONLY. I think you’ll find common I/o cards used – matrox, and kona. I’ve used mxo2 and lhi and they both work for accurate color and frame reference (for my needs).

I’ll let others speak for storage and video card suggestions.

Also, I’m using dual apple led cinema displays for monitors.

If you don’t know how to buy and configure a system, then us telling you what components to get won’t tell you how to assemble it and get it all working. Do you know how? If not, then it would be wise to hire someone to price out and configure a system for you, or get a turnkey system from some place like ProMax.

Buy the most powerful Mac Tower there is. Put a lot of ram in it.
Get 3 extra internal SATA HD (1-2TB)

I/O cards to consider are from AJA/Black Magic/Matrox.

Raid box – look to the sides of this page @ the ads.

Get a small mixer to run the audio in and out. Good studio monitors for sound.

Look to Flanders Scientific for HD monitoring.

Get some Ext. smaller HD’s for backups.

Get a nice desk/console and chair too.

In reply to Shane’s message – I know how to build a suite.

If you would have read my message correctly, I’m simply looking for recommendations based on past experience with different products so I can make a educated decision. Isn’t that what user forums are all about? – the exchange of information within a community for a common goal?

The time it took you to write that message, you could have simply wrote a couple of suggestions to be helpful.

This question gets asked every few days here. A quick search will reveal what we recommend. Again and again.
