Big picture questions for a Big picture project
Greetings everyone:
I find this forum immensely helpful and deeply appreciate many of the contributions I read.
I’m an audio engineer and public radio documentary producer. Over the years, I’ve had to dive into photography and basic slide shows too. This year I find myself at the start of a large project with many new variables. I wanted to bring it up here and ask the experts here what major issues I should be on guard for as I embark upon a new project.
This year, I’ll be working on a sports documentary that has multiple final products. The first will be a stand alone hour long radio doc. The second will be that same radio documentary (with some slight tweaks) along with an hour of visual content to go with it on the web. More than likely it’ll be about 50% photos, 50% video. I’ll put the final project together in Final Cut Pro 7.
I’m taking photographs and shooting video with a Canon 7D. I’m shooting HD movies on the camera at 1920×1080 30fps. Some of the video will likely also come an iPhone 4 shooting “HD” at 720p. Photos are basic .jpgs. Audio is being recorded completely wild – and will be manually synchronized. All of the audio recordings (coming from Sound Devices 744Ts and Marantz 620s) are 48K.
My biggest concerns are file compatability and how I should set my Final Cut preference to make sure that everything works well together. I’ve just read about the E1 plugin from Canon that will presumably make the transfer of video into Final Cut easier. But, like I mentioned, I’ll have some other video to contend with too shot at different formats.
So first off – how should I set up my Final Cut session preference wise? What types of major issues should I be concerned about going in? Any thoughts or suggestions or cautions would be greatly appreciated.
