Playback of ProRes 422, “jump-zooms” on Quicktime Player
I have made a 1080P movie, which ended up on a ProRes 422 HQ file. It plays back smooth and all through Final Cut. But I want to show it to people through my Mac Pro, through the Quicktime Player, just to get a “cleaner” and simpler interface for playback. But weird things happen when playing back on the Quicktime Player. Let me explain:
Sometimes after a cut in the final edit, then window jumps. It doesn’t stutter, like when the bitstream gets to high. It’s not a I-cant-follow-along-the-high-bitrate jump. And I have RAID’ed harddrives. It jumps like a zoom. Like someone made a “resize” on the image.
In face it not only happens on cuts. I have a fade from black, where the fade goes smooth. But after the fade the picture jump-zooms. From frame to frame. Zooms out…maybe 5% or so.
I have made lesser quality movies from this master file. Example: A H264 file. Quality is worse. But there’s no jump.
Why is this? How in the world, does the file know to zoom-jump just after edits?
