Stripping alpha from QT file
Posted by Patrice Freymond on September 25, 2010 at 6:25 pmHi everyone,
after searching these forums and the web:
is there a way to obtain the alpha layer of a qt file so as to modify it? Basically, turning a qt file (animation codec, or prores 4444) into two separate files?
thanks in advance

September 25, 2010 at 10:02 pmAre you trying to export a matte layer from FCP? If so you can do that in FCP without going to Motion.
All the best,
Tom

September 26, 2010 at 2:42 amFC don’t have the export only Alpha option, but you can export a B & W matte to be used for Luma Matte in FC or interpreted as an Alpha Channel for AE, Motion, etc.
– Put a black in Layer 1 and a white in Layer 3.
– In Layer 2 set the picture with the Alpha Channel.
– Set Layer 3 as “Travel Matte Alpha”.
Export in whatever codec you prefer.
