  Converting 4:3 video to 16:9 for DVD

  Hi all,

  I’d like to make a true 16:9 HD DVD from a 4:3 (anamorphic project)?

  My rushes are downconverted from 16:9 HD and the downconverted DV tapes are a squeezed anamorphic 4:3 image. (it gets unstretched in the FCP)

  I don’t want to create a 4:3 with a 16:9 letterbox image inside of it. I want a real 16:9 DVD.

  Nobody seems to know.
  Any ideas?

  First thing is that HD DVD is a dead format so you dont wont to make one of those. Apple should remove it from DVDSP.

  4×3 is not anamorphic. Your anamorphic images look squeeze within a 720×480 package. Once encoded 16×9 they are played back correctly.

  In DVDSP you flag ur clips to display 16 x 9 or 4 x 3

  I have a problem with setting the aspect ratio when viewing some video files from hard disk or flash memory devices using the USB on my TV, a Panasonic with Viera technology. While the TV does have a multitude of aspect ratio settings to choose from when viewing TV programmes or DVD it does not provide those options when viewing video files via USB. The TV is Divx certified and shows all Divx files in the .avi format up to full HD 1920×1080. The problem can be solved for many cases using “de facto cropping” by setting the file formats suitably when doing the video clip editing, but now the latest problem is related to the option of wide screen clips recorded with a Panasonic NV GS400 camcorder using its anamorphic “cimema” option for viewing the 4:3 files in 16;9. The recorded format is obviously 4:3, which for viewing must be horizontally stretched by 4/3. That stretch is not possible at the stage of viewing video files via USB, and thus I am looking for a video editing program that could increase the horizontal pixels by a factor of 1,33.., just to make the anamorphic 4:3 to a true 16:9. Can someone help?
