CAN’t RECONNECT MEDIA (XDCAM)
He everybody,
I knew the day will come when XDCam’s cryptic BRAV folder will bite me in the ass.
This day came today when trying to reconnect Media (that was moved)
So when I use the Search Function (within Reconnect Media) I am prompted to the mp4 file inside the corresponding CLPR subfolder but it doesn’t reconnect.

You need to run the SONY TRansfer to re-wrap these MP4 as QT movies.
Then reconnect the QT files.

Still one problem: With XDCam Transfer I can only Re-transfer my files into the project,
but how could I re-wrap the clips instead so that my offline files get reconnected? -
How did you import the footage to begin with? Sounds like you started on the wrong foot. You don’t work with the footage AS it was recorded in the folders, you need to either LOG AND TRANSFER it to QT, or use the Sony Transfer Utility to do this.

Shane, I don’t thinks so.
The only way (to my knowledge) to get XDCam footage into FCP is with the Sony Transfer Utility. So I open in from FCP project vii >Import > SOny XDCam.
The material from the RAw BPAV folders then show up inside the project as single clips.It doesn’t Log and Transfer and what should I log and transfer if the clips are already imported via Sony XDCam utilitiy?
So right now with the moved onto other drive it looks like there is no other way to re-connect media?
Wonder what Rafael meant with re-wrapping…. -

XDCAM, or XDCAM EX? Disk or SxS card? The Sony Utility works for both, but you can bring in XDCAM EX via Log and Transfer too…native only.

Oooohhhh…I see. You didn’t use the Clip Browser as a STAND ALONE app, you accessed it THROUGH FCP. I haven’t done this. Did you export as a QT file when you did this?

FC do not work with those MP4 (unless you have a third part plugin).
FC works with QT files.
The Transfer tool re-wrap (no re-encoding) the MP4 as QT, so you can edit in FC.
Open the Transfer Application and run it in the BPAV folders.

Thanks, Rafael, I understood that part, but it’s getting really frustrating when you want to re-link.
So once you lost your (transferred) clips I found no way of re-linking them, only transferring again, but since they nor replacing the missing ones they’re useless… Ever had that particular problem? -
Use Bouke’s FCPreconnect utilty to link to the retransferred media. At only 60 bucks it’s something that should be in every FCP editors toolkit:

Use the Transfer tool as stand alone (no from FC) and convert the MP4.
Then open FC and reconnect the resulting QT files.

I’m one of 13 editors all sharing media on an xSan and we’ve been working w/XDCAM EX footage for a little over a year now and have not run into the relinking problem you are having. Has your system been exhibiting any other strange behavior? Maybe this is a symptom of a greater problem.
