2 perf 35mm (25fps) ALE file into Cinema Tool / FCP
Hi, I’ll soon be cutting a feature shot on 35mm 2 perf and I’ve just found out that FCP/Cinema Tools doesn’t accept 2 perf ALE. Is this right?! Seems a bit sloppy by Apple…
This will be the first feature I’ve cut that was shot on 35mm so apologies if I sound a little naive or confused!
The footage is being shot at 25 fps and the lab are giving me synced rushes in Pro Res HD (also 25fps) – at a rate of one Pro Res file per 35mm roll.
I’d really like to use the ALE files that the lab are making (especially as I won’t have an assistant) to quickly organize everything by slate number – but presumably I won’t be able to import the ALE (if 2 perf isn’t supported) and I’ll have to do all the logging myself using sub-clips?
Also, the lab I’m working with can’t do bitc on HD rushes (only SD) but they’ve guaranteed me that the time-codes will match up perfectly (between the 25fps neg and 25fps Pro Res). In case of any time-code confusion, could the ALE files be helpful to determine accurate time-code relationships? Or would the ALE files also lose their meaning in the event of a time-code mishap? I’m just trying to determine the value of having ALE files if I can’t use them for their intended reason.
Ultimately does anyone have experience of working with 2perf 35 mm and FCP/ Cinema Tools?
Any solutions, headaches and general advice would be enormously welcome!
Perhaps there is another 2 perf friendly program that can import 2 perf ALE files into FCP?
