  • Growing text shaking and shimmering? Don’t want this.

I am attempting to add text to a closing slate that appears as if the text lifts off a shirt and remains after the image fades. However when adding the desired movement to the text it shakes and shimmers horribly.

The scene starts zoomed out wide and zooms in on a shirt with text. I then fade in new generated text over the image text and have it continue the same path of growing, moving on the Y axis and expanding after the image has faded, leaving just the desired text. What I have run into is the text appears to shake as it grows instead of it being a smooth transition. Is there a way to create this effect and not have the shaking?

The first attempt was created using Final Cut pro text tool, I then recreated the same effect in LiveType. In Livetype the text looked good, but when rendered and placed it had the same shake.

I am editing in Final Cut Pro 6 NTSC DV 3:2 720×480

    Thanks!

It also matters how you are moving the text. Are you keyframing movement in the motion tab? If so I am not surprised it looks awful. Graphics size and position should be manipulated within the generator, not just dragging and zooming the frame.

Try doing the job in Motion and as Dave said, use a better codec like ProRes for the timeline.

    Hey,

I have the same problem with and my timeline is prores.

Tried to solve it with different export settings, via templates and everything but the text is still shaky.

Since I was in a crunch, I solved my problem by almost completely removing any extra horizontal movement. My text was growing in size and kerning, so I removed the kerning growth and this removed most of my problem.
