Play selected clip from beginning to end on the timeline
Posted by Julio Alvarez on August 30, 2010 at 11:14 pmIs there an easy and quick way to just play the selected clip from beginning to end on the timeline? I want to avoid SHIFT + A (to place in and out points at the clip’s beginning and end) and then SHIFT + \ (play in to out). It seems like a long way around just to take a look at a clip from beginning to end.
Thanks in advance.

That’s 1/86,400 of a day I’ll never get back…

August 30, 2010 at 11:41 pmTwo multiple-key-keystrokes (with the second one using the right hand) is not efficient. I want to select a clip and hit ONE key (like on other apps).
Is there anyone who knows the answer to the question? If the answer is “there is no way to do it”, I’ll stop searching.
Thanks.

August 30, 2010 at 11:46 pmRemap the keyboard. Go to TOOLS>KEYBOARD LAYOUT, and find map those TWO-KEY combos to one key each…take out the modifier. Or map them to F-keys.
It can be done.

August 30, 2010 at 11:46 pmAll kidding aside, how would the app know what you wanted to look at in a loop without setting in/outs?
How would it know whether you wanted to look at the whole timeline rather than just the clip?
I’ve been editing on Avid for more than a decade and I couldn’t even tell you whether it does this or not (its not a feature I use much)

August 30, 2010 at 11:53 pmGood answer Shane. Thanks for that. I’ll try it and get back.
John, the app knows what to play because the clip you want to play is selected. Works in lots of audio apps.

Gotcha. I wrote that before you responded. I thought you wanted to do everything in one step. My bad.
Shane’s answer was spot on, as usual.
Sorry about the joke…no offense intended.
