  • Fading multiple layers?

    Hello again!
Just wondered how you guys do to fade, for example; one track and a garbage matte duplication of the same track? I’ve got a garbage matte covering up an ugly shadow on the wall in the background but when the two clips fades (I’m decreasing the opacity of both tracks at the same speed) the garbage matte becomes very visible. Hard to explain, hope you understand.

I suppose I could export the clip with the garbage matte but without the fade and then import it and fade but it seems to be a bit of a hassle, no easier way?

    Thanks
    Arv

Nest the items, then apply the fade to the nest.

if you’re fading to or from black you can put a slug above both layers and fade up onto or off of the slug

[Thom Obarski] “if you’re fading to or from black you can put a slug above both layers and fade up onto or off of the slug”

If it’s not black. You can do the same thing using a video layer. Grab the next shot in the timeline and hold option + Shift wile you drag to the upper most video track. This will put a duplicate of the clip directly above where the clip arlead is. Then back time that clip for the duration of the transition. Say 15 frames. Then create your fade with the opacity at the spot where the next shot is totally visible (ie where the orignal cut is) blade off that top video layer and delelete it. So you’ll just have a clip right over your composite that’s timed correctly and is just the duration of the fade.

That works to, although I bet colorists really hate getting in your projects before the online!
