Is there a reason why music etc is panned when imported into final cut?

because it’s stereo. One channel is panned left (-1) and the other is panned right (+1)

I thought Stereo was panned to the center?

If you have a mono track, panning it center would give you dual mono – the same audio coming out of both left and right speakers.
If you panned your stereo tracks to the center, I suspect it would do the same. Give it a try and look at your audio meters. See what happens

Yeah it does. I guess I am really wanting to know is should i pan my camera recording to match the music audio also? I have video that records on a sd card and when I import it it’s panned. Should it be panned or not?

Your camera is most likely recording stereo audio. So leave it as is – left channel panned to -1, right channel panned to +1

I don’t have two options. I only have -1 I can’t do both. Sorry if I’m confused.

In Log & Transfer or Log & Capture you’ll see a button with a symbol to the left of the audio tracks. There are two lines from it going to 2 tracks such as A2 & A2, A3 & A4, etc. This button determines if the two track will be transferred/captured in mono or stereo.
Do you have one or two tracks coming in? If two, are they linked or unlinked? Have you tried double-clicking one track and changing the pan setting in the Viewer to +1?

that’s great but I’m not capturing anything. I’m shooting on a SD card and then dragging clips from the SD card onto my external drive and importing them into final cut.

What camera are you using and what kind of file are you importing directly? If there’s a log and transfer/capture workflow, you might try that. Have you tried double-clicking one of the imported clips and changing the pan position of one of the audio tracks? You have two audio tracks, right? And both are panned left?

yes but I heard that it makes no difference and I tried and I dont’ hear a difference.
