There are only DVD Studio Pro, iDVD and Encore so I would try them all and see.

I’ve been using DVD Studio Pro primarily. It’s only until recently that I tried Adobe Encore.

Both have their pros and cons. Really it comes down to what you like to work with/what you’re comfortable with. Both do have a lot more control (obviously) than iDVD and similar applications to that.

DVD Studio Pro is free with FCS. That makes it good. If you are asking what would be better, it depends on whether you are doing preview copies for a client, corporate short run DVDs or a full authoring job for a commercial DVD.

If the latter, I would highly recommend finding a specialist authoring bureau and supply them with a quicktime.

[Michael Gissing] “or a full authoring job for a commercial DVD.”

DVDSP is fully capable of authoring commercial DVDs. While it may take the long way around block if you know what you are doing you can make it do whatever you need.

I consider the authoring and menu design of commercial DVDs to be a task for speshalists (spelling intentional to avoid modding) in the same way that audio post, grading and online are also best done by those that specialize.

Not to say you can’t edit and do all those tasks as well, but I just don’t consider it the most professional way to do things.

I agree but we aren’t living in those times anymore…especially when it comes to DVD. Menu design is everything in DVD and thats where a DVD design specialist comes in. DVDSP titles are indistinguishable from titles done with more Professional authoring tools.
