Removing Aperture info from FCP7 QT files
Long story short, I have a \”client\” who\’s transcoding farm will incorrectly transcode any QT ProRes file created by FCP7 due to the aperture tags. They will only accept files created in FCP6 or FCP7 files that have been re-compressed in Compressor 3.5.2 which can strip the aperture. Quite honestly that\’s a massive amount of re-transcoding to remove some metadata and very time consuming.
Does anyone know of any tools that can strip the aperture info out of a QT file? Preferably something object C based so we can automate this via command line.

Hi Robert,
Bouke Vahl has an application called QTChange that can batch modifie QT files properties.
I don’t see Aperture as an option, but you can talk with the developer (Vouke valh):

QTchange can set the ‘current’ and ‘normal’ size.
In some cases that will do the trick just fine. (Aperture does the same but has another approach.)
Just test it, it’ll be a very fast process.Bouke

No sorry QTchange didn’t remove the aperture. And QT tools doesn’t modify these either. Still searching…

I know it can’t alter the aperture.
But that could not be needed. Chances are that with new display settings the other app. will see it in it’s native resolution.
(so that needs to be tested…)Otherwise, use FFmpeg with -vcodec copy etc….

This issue isn’t the display settings. The issue is the mere presence of the clap size 1888×1062, that’s what their transcoder sees.
I found that I can edit this value in dumpster in 2 locations. In this case I edited them to 1920×1080:
The catch is I need to automate this, we can’t do each one of these by hand.

Just tested dumbster because I didn’t know it and I do not have half the info in my ProRes files you have. And certainly no Aperture info.
Maybe you could describe how you create those QT ProRes files.
Alternatively have a look at CatDV. Might (or might not) be able to help 🙂

It is an export straight out of final cut 7. It’s just 10 seconds of bars and tone and a chapter marker track. Really no frills here.

Hi Robert,
Pictures comes out of FC with “Production Aperture”.
I don’t think you must chance Aperture dimensions , but flag the files as one of the tree Aperture options.
I guess you need to change just one value in the file, but really I don’t know where.

Hmm. I opened (in dumbster) a QT ProRes file I captured from using FCP7.
Sorry I think this is beyond my knowledge. Hope somebody else can help.
