Exporting timeline with cross-blend transitions from Premiere to FCP (with alpha channel?).
Hi!
I am working on a project edited in Premiere Pro CS5 on a PC and I have to grade it with Color. There are some cross-blending transitions in the timeline. I am thinking about exporting two different quicktimes with Avid DNXHD (with Alpha Channel) for each video track, so that I can build these transitions again with Color. Will that work? Will the black background of fade-outs and fade-ins of each track be understood as transparency by FCP? Or is it better to export the quicktimes without the fades and build them manually? I am exporting both an EDL and an XML file. I am afraid the EDL will just help me to make the edits manually, since the names of the original files are longer then 8 characters.Can someone help?

Forget about the transitions until you get done with your round trip from Color. Add the transitions as a final step before output.

And Color won’t recognize the Avid DNxHD codec anyway. ProRes, DVCPRO HD, XDCAM, HDV, Uncompressed only. And it renders out ProRes or Uncompressed or DVCPRO HD only.

I agree with the others that adding the transitions last will be the most effective. Premiere Pro will export the simplest things like a cross dissolve in the FCP XML but the list of transitions is very small.
