Best Monitors
Posted by Ben Mullins on August 14, 2010 at 7:46 amHi,
Can anyone recommend the best monitor for use with FCP for around £250?
I did check previous threads and the most recent was back in January so I was wondering if anything newer had been released.
Thanks,
Ben.

August 14, 2010 at 6:37 pmis that the U2410 for about $600? I notice it has HDMI and VGA inputs. Could it also be used as a low end TV monitor for color correction or to just see what the image looks like on a TV monitor? I doubt it but just wondered.

August 14, 2010 at 6:44 pmIt can only be used as a lower LOWER end color correction monitor if you use the MXO or MXO2 with it.

August 15, 2010 at 12:44 pmThanks for that. The 2410 is a little out of my price range (around £400). I was looking at the LG W2486 which is also 24 inch. What do you think of this?
Thanks,
Ben.

August 15, 2010 at 8:25 pmI too have been looking for a budget monitor. The U2410s are readily available on US eBay for $400 (256 GBP), so you might want to look around before you dismiss it. Unfortunately I’m trying to stay at $300. Dell has a new 23″ IPS monitor the U2311H which is sub $300. Anyone have experience with these? Or an opinion on an older 24″ such as U2405, 2407 or 2408? This would be bought used, and while I have read older threads on these I’m wondering how they are holding up and how they compare to the newer stuff as well as each other.
Thanks.

September 9, 2010 at 8:17 pmShane, is there a monitor in the $500-$800 range that would be more adequate for color correction with the Matrox MXO?
Thanks

Nothing that would be accurate. I’ve seen all manner of monitors here in our testing. The least expensive and accurate monitor I’ve seen for color correction is the Flanders Scientific 1760W. About $2500 US.
We have one of those, one of their 1770W and 2 of the 2450Ws here at the shop.

September 9, 2010 at 10:13 pmPanasonic Pro Plasmas are your best bet. If you can find a 42″ in that range, go for it. That’ll be your best bet.
I have a Samsung 22″ and it is really only good for client viewing, not picture critical viewing.

September 10, 2010 at 6:54 pmShane and Walter – thank you for your responses. It sounds like spending $800 is a crap shoot as far as a good preview monitor goes. I have been reading about the HP DreamColor ($1800), but It’s probably too pricey for me.
Maye I should back up. What is everyone buying instead of the Apple Cinema display? Is the Dell U2410 have the similar speck/performance?
Thanks
