I recently got a a new Macbook and installed Final Cut Studio. I’m editing some 16:9 video in FCP and want to drop on a 4:3 Motion lower third. I created this lower third in motion as a 4:3 because eventually the video will be output (via Streamclip) as 4:3.

In the past, before the new Macbook and Final Cut Studio, the lower third would appear as 4:3 on 16:9 video and when I exported it as a QT .mov and sent in through Streamclip to convert to 4:3 and crop off the edges, the lower third would fit perfectly across the bottom of the screen.

However now, when I place the lower third into my 16:9 project timeline, it stretches to fit the entire width of the screen and gets distorted. Is there a setting in FCP to change this. I know under the edit tab in user preferences, there’s an option to always or never conform to sequence. Would this be the solution?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Double click ur lower 3rd and then click on the motion tab
then the distort, then aspect ratio. Change that.
