Hi, I\\\’ve posted here asking for help with this project before, so to save everyone a bit of time finding the previous post I\\\’m currently in the middle of migrating a massive project from AVid to FCP. Currently I\\\’m digitising a ton of tapes using exported XML files from Avid and its going well. But the next step of the project is to recreate the film in FCP. I\\\’ve been doing some looking into Automatic Duck but since there\\\’s no demo I\\\’m not sure if it is quite what is needed. And in addition to that it\\\’s quite expensive seeing as it will only be used once.

So, in the end what I\\\’m going to have is a FCP project with media that has been captured in FCP. After that I need a preferably easy way to get the Avid timeline into FCP so the film can be mostly already complete. My question is; what is the easiest way to rebuild an Avid timeline in FCP?

Automatic Duck will do what you need, but you really want to migrate the timeline to FCP, then batch capture… not capture then migrate the timeline.

FCP does not like linking to files named via another app… AVID in your case.

Figures. Oh well, too late now to go and do things the other way. But thanks for the reply.

If you captured material with the wrong names and need the timeline to reconnect, there is a way:

But what i don’t get, what kind of XML did you get out of AVID?

I know it’s been a while since this thread was active but I figured I’d post my question here instead of opening a new thread about the same topic.

So, I’ve now got all of the footage into FCP and I’ve been attempting to get EDL’s to work, but they simply won’t cut it. You said that Automatic Duck would work and I just want to clarify a few things before I recommend to my boss we buy Duck.

First, I emailed Automatic Duck asking my question and they said they couldn’t guarantee that reconnecting the files after the fact. So, has anyone actually done something like this? Capture media in FCP and then use Automatic Duck to import a timeline and reconnect the media in FCP?

From the research I’ve done I think it will work but it’s a pricey option just to run a 50/50 test.
