When I render an imported MP3 file (44.1 kHz, which the sequence is also set to) and try to render it, it will estimate the render time to be about 10 minutes, but at 3% it stops rendering as if it was complete. However, I know it is an incomplete render because during playback, there are subtle beeps. Is there any fix to this?

And if you convert it to .AIFF using iTunes or QuickTime Player?
Here you can learn how to prevent getting beeps: Audio problem.

FCP wants to see audio files as Linear PCM, 48kHz, 16or 24 bit. As Sam suggests, use an external app to convert your mp3 audio to the above.
