  • FCP7 General Error 34 AND Codec Error messages when trying to export.

Posted by Andrew louis Marnik on August 3, 2010 at 6:03 pm

Working with ProRes 422 LT footage and Self-Contained FCP Movies. Working on a ‘best of’ episode and using the finished shows as some of the footage.

When I try to export using quicktime converstion, I get a “Codec Error” message and when I try to export it as a self-contained final cut movie to convert in Quicktime Pro, I get a “General Error (34)” message.

Even when I try to reload the project from the autosave vault, all files go offline.

    Please help!

Project file is on one hard drive with 200GB available.
Self-contained episodes are on another external hard drive with 100GB available.

    Running FCP7
    1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo
    2 GB 533 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Running OSX V 10.5.8

Ok gang…. after ten minutes of having a heart attack, it was something small and I missed it completely: checking your in and out points. I figured I’d keep this up here in case anyone else has the problem or CCow can delete it if they want.

    Cheers. I can breathe again.

Andrew, I am having a similar problem. What do you mean by checking your in and out points? Mine does it with no in out points.

    Hey Scott,

I had something later in my timeline that I had deleted, yet the in and out points still remained, but were not visible. I went up to the “mark” tab and hit “clear in and out,” tried exporting and it worked like a charm after that.

    Hope this helps.

THANK YOU! I got that error today…didn’t realize I had set in and out points accidentally (probably hit a short cut key)…totally saved me!
