I wouldn’t buy that. Final Cut Studio goes for $999. The only discount available is a student discount.

If you need a bargain, you may be able to find someone selling Final Cut Studio 2 on Craigs List or something.

Even if this link were legit, downloading means you don’t have the discs. And if you don’t have the discs and you need to reinstall for whatever reason, you’re outta luck.

Final Cut Studio is not sold in downloadable form, period. It arrives on 7 or 8 DVDs because there is so much content.

I would avoid this or any other site that allows you to “download” Apple software, particularly pro software. Studio is $999 and if you are a student, you can get it for $499 I believe.

There are never any discounts on the software, however, you can sometimes get a few dollars off from reputable resellers like MacMall.com if you purchase a computer at the same time.

Best deal is usually to get an older version of FCS (or FCP) for not so much money (with discs) and then pay ~$266 net for an FCS3 upgrade from one of the retail advertisers on this forum (check out the left side and read the text on the banner ads).

There are places to buy legit new copies at a little savings. But like others have said stay away from “too good too be true” at best you get an illegal copy (which is not a good thing) at worse you lose your money.

    B&H has it for $800

In addition to what others have said about the wisdom of buying FCP on the cheap this way, if you buy an “education version”, there may not be an upgrade path for it, so you woouldn’t able to use it to springboard into the next release.

I got work to buy FCS for me, and I bought FCE for home to practice (the basics) with.

A quick Google shows this site as a potential scam, enough for me to not purchase from them, I’ll leave the decision up to you though.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions. I’ll accept the overall opinion that it’s at best risky and possibly a scam.

I saw the B&H link, but I’m Canadian and that package is only available to Americans. The price for me is $1,199.00 (Canadian).

Thanks for the info about purchasing an older version and upgrading. I’ll also check into packages for buying the system and the software together.

Then there’s the decision about Applecare and whether it’s worth it… I thought Applecare included some support for FCP, but it looks like there is a separate video support contract which is really out of my budget range. https://store.apple.com/ca/product/MA698ZM/C?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY

Has anyone used Applecare support for helping with FCP, or is Applecare really just insurance on the hardware?

Thanks again everyone for the feedback.
