    Hey everyone,
I\’m working on setting up a new macpro edit bay and have a question about external video playback in fcp. I do my shooting on a Sony V1u (HDV) as well as a Canon 7d. I typically shoot in 1080 30p on both and edit in a 1080×1440 canvas. My question regards video playback from my fcp timeline on to an 1080p 240hz LG Led tv. This is my first real edit studio so I\’m new to all of this, as I used to edit on macbook pro hooked up to a fw800 hdd on the default fcp layout on the 17\” screen. An hdv deck seems to far outside of my budget to get to an external playback monitor, but I was looking into an hdmi based solution anyways. In a nutshell, my question becomes what is the most cost effective way to get my fcp timeline feed to the tv via hdmi to make more accurate edits color corrections. Is the product I\’m looking for perhaps one of those blackmagic cards? Or a matrox box? This stuff is all too new to me so any advice would be great. I\’d also be more than willing to give a better explanation to anyone willing to help here if what I\’m asking doesn\’t make sence.
    Thanks so much everyone,
    Ryan

Blackmagic has the cheapest card with HDMI out. But the MXO2 Mini w/ Max gives the added benefit of speeding up H264 exports.

https://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/ (not the shuttle for FCP)
https://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mac/mxo2_family/ – without MAX it is a lot cheaper but it you are making H264 for BLuRay or for web delivery the extra $ will be a great value.

    Ryan,
Seeing that you need to drive an HDMI monitor, you have a MBP AND as was suggested you might want to export H.264 for web, iphone or Blu-Ray eventually …I would go with the Matrox MXO2 MINI with MAX.
I have the Matrox MXO2 and love it! I added the H.264 encoding card (CompressHD) later to my MacPro and could not believe the time I saved. I think I paid for it in 1 or 2 exports…

Now I also hear the MXO2 Mini not only supports FCP, but AVID MC5 and Adobe CS5… this one piece of gear has you covered.

    Hope this helps.
