RIP a DVD and add foreign subtitles?
Can anyone help me with this?
I would like to add subtitles of a local language here to several documentaries we want to screen.
At this point, I had used Handbrake to rip the DVDs onto my computer, and then import into FCP.
I am terrible with compression and all the different codecs, and so I really got stuck along the way. Handbrake copied them as .m4v files. I am not sure if I cam change this at the time of copying, or if I then should use MPEG Streamclip to convert it again into a different codec which is suitable for FCP.
I had done that, but quality was lost.
Can anyone tell me, step by step, then how to get a movie from a DVD onto my computer, with which program, in which format, and then how to get it into FCP so I can subtitle it?

MPEG Streamclip can rip a DVD into m2v and aiff or m2v and ac3. These files can be used in DVD Studio Pro to create a new DVD with different menus, additional sound and subtitles.
There is no loss of quality whatsoever in this process.
To add subtitles, you can do an additional conversion in MPEG Streamclip from the DVD to Quicktime and use that QT to create subtitles in FCP.
These subtitles can be exported as XML and then use something like Title Exchange Pro to convert XML to STL for import into DVDSP. This QT is only for placement and isn’t used in making the final DVD.
Alternately you can directly compose subtitles in DVDSP on the m2v and ac3.
