  FCP – Capture failure with VHS converted foogate

  I’m a basic FCP user. I am attempting to capture films from the 1930s and 40s. The films were transferred onto VHS before I received them. I transferred them onto mini dv using a JVC HR-DVS3U Video Cassette Recorder. Now I am attempting to capture the mini dv tapes into FCP 6.0.6, but continue to receive this message:

  “Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted…”

  I am using the FireWire NTSC device control.

  I have attempted the Capture/ Input settings of
  DV NTSC 48kHz
  DV NTSC 48kHz Advanced Pulldown Removal
  and DV NTSC 48kHz Anamorphic (bascially because the others did not work.)

  I am using my Panasonic DVX100 as my deck.

  Can anyone offer any suggestions?

  I would hook up a VHS machine to the input of the DVS3U machine and capture as non-controllable device/DV NTSC 48 khz, directly from the VHS, thru the DV machine without recoding it to tape.
  I don’t have this specific machine, but I have a BR-50, which has a DV setting, and it works on that.
