Sudden lag during editing of 1080/60i footage from a HMC150 into FCP
It’s been working fine until today. Now I am experiencing a slight lag in footage in the timeline while I am editing. I have 190GB of footage stored on my MacBook Pro with 140 GB of space left. Any thoughts on what I can do to eliminate the lag and clear up the performance? It’s really starting to bug me!
I am running a MacBookPro with 10.5.8 OS X and the latest version of FCP.

And I am editing Panasonic HMC150 footage shot at 1080/60i which was converted using Apple ProRes 422. thanks!

Hi Dave, thanks for the response…
…I currently have it set to Users/Documents/Final Cut Pro/Capture Scratch. I’ve had 140GB of 720p footage loaded on there as well as the 1080 footage. I transferred the 720p footage this morning to a harddrive to free up disk space and now it’s lagging.
What are your thoughts?

How would I tell if the disk is spinning slower than 10,000 rpm? The capture scratch is set to the Macbook pro and not an external drive. Is the size of the 1080i footage too much for the MacBook to handle? I do have a USB harddrive I could load this footage on but I fear that might be slower.

Ive had this issue as well…so I want to follow the thread. Answers I’ve been given are – don’t edit hdv – and my raid is too full.

Problem solved by uploading all of my 1080i footage onto a firewire hardrive and freeing up my OS memory. for some reason 1080i did not like being stored on my Macbook Pro but coming from a hardive via firewire 800, the lag is gone and all is well! Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions!
