Sequence settings + Compression vs. AeCS4
I noticed that when I render gradient-heavy motion graphics in After Effects CS4, next to “output module” it says “Lossless.” When I open and play that rendered .MOV file on any computer, there is NO banding and the quality is superb (1280×720 24p).
I then import that file into FCP to do my editing.
Along w/ the AE project, I’m also cutting several 1280×720 24p videos all shot on different cameras (these are already edited and compressed using h.264).
So I set my Sequence preset to Apple ProRes 4444, 24p, but change the res to 1280×720).
I do my cutting…
Send to Compressor and use the Apple ProRes with Alpha (4444, 32bit).
So…
This seems to be the ONLY way I can get my final to NOT have gradient banding. HOWEVER, my 3 minute clip is almost 4GIGS! Compared w/ the h.264 version which is only 500gigs.
Basically I’m asking if there’s anything I can step down in either Compressor or the Sequence presets which will keep the pristine quality (no banding) and reduce the file size?
Thank you.
