  • Software to log footage for documentary BEFORE TRANSCODE – AVCHD workflow

Just shot 168 gigs of AVCHD footage (2300 individual clips) over the past 3 weeks with my HMC40 and I am now left with the task of reviewing the footage in hope of using some of it to make a documentary. Footage is in folders on a 2tb HD. I’m familiar with the log and transfer process but need advice on how to document good shots before I get to this stage.

Wondering how folks would go about logging the footage and what software if any you’d use. I’m leaning towards watching the footage in VLC first then an Excel spreadsheet and perhaps a screen capture. I see some programs for P2 workflows but none for AVCHD.The log and transfer video window seems too small to review the footage and also I have to transcode the MTS file to add Meta data so this won’t work.

Suggestions? Starting to think AVCHD is not really designed for professionals 🙁
