Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

Hi.
I’ve been working in Final Cut Pro (v 6.0) — a 90 minute film. I’ve been bringing in .mov clips. I have to render in order to playback anything. I’ve been doing that. Suddenly I’m getting a General Error message when I try to render.

I trashed the preferences. I’ve done that in the past and it worked so I could render again. This time I’m still getting the general error message and it won’t let me render.

Do you know what the problem is and how to fix it?

You have to be much more specific. What type of footage are you editing and what are your sequence settings?

For the record, if you have to render everything, that indicates one of two things that are both bug problems:

1) your sequence settings don’t match your media

or

2) you are trying to edit a format that FCP doesn’t recognize as an editng format

Sorry. I’m really new to working with FCP.

I’m making an animated film. The animation is done in DAZ Studio. To bring the file into FCP I render it to a .mov file. I’m also bringing in still photos (.jpg).

My FCP sequence settings are:
Frame size 640 x 480 (NTSC 4:3) anamorphic 16:9
editing time base 29.97

In DAZ Studio I can only render 4:3 — don’t have the anamorphic option. Also it only does the editing time base as 30 fps.

Is that the information you need?

I trashed the preferences again and it let me render a small clip once and now it’s giving me the general error message again.

Make your sequence match your clips and you’ll be a lot better off.

Can u render 720X480 in ur animation program? .jpg r no problem.

Forcing it anamorphic will always require rendering. If you must have this and cannot create this in ur animation program…ur in 4 a uphill battle.

All Quicktime files are .mov files and there are innumerable “QuickTime codecs” available to choose from. So, you mist be more specific. It’s absolutely critical that anyone using FCP be able to determine precisely what variety of QuickTime they are working with, otherwise FCP won’t work properly. So, carefully examine the information on the FCP browser after importing a video file, particulary the column with the heading labeled “compressor” which identifies the codec. To help you we always need to know the codec, the framerate, and the pixel dimensions, all of which are listed in the browser.

The codec is setup the same as the sequence codec, which is DV NTSC 48 Khz.

It was working fine and suddenly it stopped working. The last time this happened I trashed the preferences, reset them and it worked. Now after trashing the preferences it’s not working — just gives me the general error message.
