Lighting on comp within comp
Hi All,
I’m creating a box in 3-D space within a comp and then lighting it. Then I’m bringing my comp into another comp that is also in 3-D space. Everything is fine, except my lighting doesn’t seem to be following into the second comp.
Is there a step that I’m missing or box I’m not clicking? Hopefully so. Not really looking forward to re-lighting everything in the final comp.

This is one area where AE just breaks apart.
Nested Lights get nuked in the main comp. Don’t ever light naything in a precomp.
Your best bet is to do all the lighting in the main comp or copy the light(s) into the main comp and work over there.

I should also have mentioned that if your main comp doesn’t have a light layer then things are okay.
Therefore, you may want to have a 3rd comp – a final comp that doesn’t have any camera or lights where these two 3D comps can reside – ensure that you have Collapsed Transformations switched on for the nested 3D comps. The downside is that I really don’t know how lights from the two comps are going to react to each other.
I’m not on an AE-capable PC right now, so you’ll have to run quick tests to see if it’s a viable option.
