  • Editing in Master Sequences that Auto Update Edits in “Affiliate” Sequences

    Hi there

It was mentioned to me today that you can have a Master Sequence [containing say the end to end cut of an 80 min Feature] and several “Affiliate Sequences” [say 4 in the length of 20 min Reels that make up the 80 min Feature edit] – of these you are able to link the Affiliate Sequences to the Master Sequence so that say if you have trimmed a few shots in the Master Sequence the edits would then be reflected simultaneously in the corresponding “Affiliate Sequence”.

So I’m not talking about Multicam editing but more like say [as analogy] using an excell database where if you make a change in one collumn, the result is reflected in the corresponding collumn.

I have never heard of this before in FCP and am amazed that I have not. Is this a known function or are they mistaken with the capabilities inherent with another app.

Thanks for your time reading this post 😉

There’s something sort of like this only it’s the other way around. You can nest sequences in a “master” sequence, and if you change one of the original 4 shorter nested sequences (like in your example) the Master sequence will update.

    Hi Jerry

    Thanks for your reply.

Yes I thought this would be the closest thing to what I originally thought possible.

Definitely no other automated way than you can think of?

There’s definitely no other way to have an edit change in one sequence update in another sequence. It’s a good workflow though. While your editing, it’s always easier to work with a shorter sequence than a long one, so it makes sense that the software would be designed to work as I described above.

I agree. And thanks for the additional confirmation Jerry.

    Kind regards, Caine.
