Reinstall
I am intending to do a reinstall of Final Cut Pro in order to solve a glitch.
Can someone please help me with a checklist of things to back up or settings to write down before I do?
How do you save preferences/user settings? If I save preferences will it also save drive destinations for media (we are not using the default location).

No, paranoia does not help anything. Cloning your system drive to an inexpensive FireWire drive using Carbon Copy Cloner prior to reinstalling the software is a sure way to avoid all of your fears. Doing so creates a bootable clone that will allow you to go back at any time to copy anything from your old instalation to the new one, so you needn’t worry about forgetting anything or making any kind of mistake.

You can use Preference Manager to store your prefs. It’s also great for trashing prefs and then restoring.

I followed everyones advice. I have a clone of the whole system, plus I used Preference Manager which is a great little piece of software. But, in the end, Paranoia got the better of me and I decided NOT to do a full reinstall. Too many things that might go wrong, too much software to reinstall, plus the half day it will take to copy back all the media.
My problem was that the system was freezing every time it went to sleep. In the end we decided it was better to treat the symptom than to treat the disease, I have told my system never to go to sleep. Problem solved – kinda.
Maybe one day an upgrade will fix the problem. Anyone else know of this problem or a cure?Thanks for the help!
