AE and open GL? What’s that?
I have the Adobe Production Bundle 2.0 with AE ver.7 professional. When I have the program open, the inferface screen jiggles when I try to do something. Also, the pop-down menus sort of “ghost back” or partially dissappear when I drop one down. I have the same problem with Premiere as well.
My PC is running with on-board graphics, not a seperate graphics card. Does this cause these problems? My monitor is a 17″ Viewsonic crt type. The PC has 2 gigs of memory.
Any ideas would greatly be appreciated.

Hmph. I don’t think that OpenGL affects interface issues.
1: do you have the latest drivers for your on-board graphics?
2: is your graphics chip supported for AE 7?
3: can you call Adobe on this? -
it sounds like a loose connection or bad monitor cable…. check the connections to your monitor and wiggle the monitor cable around.

also, your monitor may be going bad… when little transistors start to go on a crt, you can get wiggly video, squeezed pictures or other monitor distortions.
if you can try a different monitor, that would be an easy way to test…
if you are convinced that your monitor, connections and cable are good, you could look at a trying a different graphics card. you don’t need to spend much money, just find out what type of expansion card you need (agp, pci, etc.) you should be able to find a decent used one on ebay for cheap.

Thanks guys. I don’t think it’s the monitor or connections, simply due to the fact, it only happens while using AE.
Could the on-board graphics be a problem? It’s a new system with a new motherboard. I always suspected that on-board graphics isn’t as good as a seperate graphics card. Is that so? You always read about software requirements, and I never read that on-board graphics is ok. The computer guys who built my system talked me into not going with a seperate card.Phil

well… you don’t need a great graphics card for ae, you just won’t use any of the opengl accelerated features, which really isn’t a big deal.
by default in cs3 opengl is only used in previews during interaction, not rendering or ram previews. and earlier version have it set completely off by default.
in cs3 there is an option to use opengl for interface drawing, i can’t remember the wording for the feature, but it was in the interface pref. earlier versions had no such option.
you could pickup a graphics card, plug it in and see if it helps, just make sure you can return it.
i had mentioned the connection because i have an older system at work that experiences a strange ghosting/smearing effect, particularly on the right side of dropdown menus… i finally figured out it is a bad connection on the monitor itself, but by wiggling the cable it will work fine for a while.

You are the first person I have seen that describes perfectly the same situation I am having. I have spent a lot of time on this, all to no avail. This is very frustrating.
Did you ever find a resolution?
Incidentally, I have had the same issues you describe with an ATI Radeon 7200, ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT, and my new card, NVIDEA GeForce 7300 GT. All had/have the latest drivers. All cards only had the interface issue with AE and Premiere Pro CS3. Also, all of my motherboard/chip set drivers are up-to-date. There is not a single driver on my machine that is not current.
The only way I have seen to make the issue go away is to decrease acceleration (Display Properties/Advanced/Hardware Acceleration) from notch 6 (full) to notch 3. All is fine then. I do not want to run like that though.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?

I would be very, very grateful if someone could offer a solution.
