MXF files in Final Cut Pro 6
Hi All
I have imported all my footage into Final Cut, but each clip is only importing up to 29.29 seconds, so everything after that is not there.
I filmed on a Sony PMWEX1R but for some reason the only file, that would keep the quality, is MXF, which can be imported into Final Cut but for some reason won’t import the whole clip. I have looked through all the settings possible and can’t see anything which may be preventing this.
If anyone knows anything about this please do let me know as I am desperate to make this work.

Hi Rebecca,
I’m not so sure that you can work with MFX in FC.
When you download the EX footage, normally you re-wrap it as QT for mac and as MFX for PC.

What means that?
It can not be any quality difference between QT and MFX. Is the same audio and video with different envelopes.

I downloaded a plug in for FCP 6 which allows MXF files to be edited in it but for some reason it will only allow 29 seconds.
I used XDCAM EX Clip Browser to import and convert the files as that was the software that came with the camera for uploading. I have the XDCAM Transfer but it wouldn’t allow me to export any files. In Clip Browser I didn’t have any options to export it QT, the only other one that would work with Final Cut was AVI but that made the quality extremely poor.

It sounds like you downloaded a demo. You probably have to pay for it to get the whole clip.

I think that the problem is that you are trying to use the clip browser software as a standalone utility to export the clips to a usable codec. The EX workflow is actually easier that that. First download the XDCAM Transfer for Final Cut Pro software from here.https://servicesplus.us.sony.biz/sony-software.aspx?model=pdzkp1
Then use Log and Transfer in FCP to import your footage directly into the FCP bin. Here is an overview of the workflow.
