I am wondering if there is a way to sync audio tracks up to a master clip after the original (lets say half hour) tape has been edited down.
    Steps I am working with.
    1. Tape is Batch captured pro ress 422. with no audio
    2. File is sent to editor, where editor cuts clip.
    3. Sync is then laid back. (Since it is shot on film it’s taking a bit to get the audio laid down).
    4. Re-digg tape with audio track. Then I end up taking the file offline, and using “clip setting” to add what audio clips I need.
    5. Re-capture tape with audio and send back to editor.
So there ends up being a whole bunch of different cuts that we would love to re-sync the new audio files with.
Is there a way of getting these new audio files to connect with the original clip?

Is there timecode on everything? And I’m a bit confused as you say first you capture from tape and then say it’s film. How’d you get the film to tape?

I apologize. Yes there is timecode on everything. The first tape has Hr 1, and so on. The footage is shot on film and transferred to HDCam tapes. That’s why the audio is not on the tapes right away. We would like to get all the footage that comes back from the transfer house to the editor right away, instead of waiting to put sync on the tapes.

It’s possible that you can create an EDL and perhaps trick it into importing files with merged audio. See the EDL below and notice that events (clips) 001 & 003 have audio on tracks 1&2, represented as “AA.” Meanwhile, event 002 has no audio, so it shows only “V,” indicating that event is video only.

So, if I were to edit the EDL in a text editor, and make event 002 an AA/V event. Then, I used the EDL to create a new sequence using clips numbered or named identically to the original clips, but with audio merged, conceivably, that would do what you’re asking.

    TITLE: SEQUENCE 1 COPY
    FCM: NON-DROP FRAME

    001 101 AA/V C 00:00:00:00 00:03:29:12 01:00:00:00 01:03:29:12

    002 101 V C 00:03:29:12 00:03:41:16 01:03:29:12 01:03:41:16

    003 101 AA/V C 00:03:41:16 01:03:55:15 01:03:41:16 02:03:55:15
