  Compressor and HVX200 P2 1280×720 onto Youtube optimized

  Hi gang,

  I shoot the HVX at 720p 24 fps… I usually compress to 480×270 for blip and now am moving to producer account on youtube.

  I want the best resolution possible – HD of course.

  Cutting on FCP 6.0.6 – compressor 3.0.5

  Current compressor settings

  This is not optimal for youtube – grainy and over exposed at times – yes I understand some is my shooting.

  Anyway, what are the best settings for a great HD experience on YouTube-

  I use an H.264, 5000 kbits data rate frame rate 50 (this is because I shoot in DVCPRO 50)key frame every 30 frame reordering checked, encoding best quality multi pass optimised for download size 1280 x 720 pixel aspect default for size. Crop to custom, Padding custom and the Audio AAC these are the results https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9YuLHLa1gY

  Yeah file sizes are going to be big, I’m fine with that because most of my uploads will only be a few minutes max, youtube now accepts up to 2gb as you know, but that will take a long time to upload, but I think the quality makes it worth it.

  If you want to lower the file size, the first thing I would do would be to bring down the data rate, restrict to 3,500 kbits and see what that gives you any lower and you probably won’t be happy with the results.

  If that’s still too big, then space out the keyframes a bit more, though there is an art with key framing or rather I should say a mathematical formula which I simply don’t know, I use trial and error a lot of the time when it comes to key framing.
