  • Final Cut 7 playback problems

    Hi all,

I’ve been getting a delay when playing back stuff on my timeline on fcp7

It not only delays when I click play, but also drops whenever there’s a clip change or cross fades or something.

The message I get is the following:

One or more frames were dropped during playback.

    If this occurs frequently try:

    -Turning off unlimited RT.
    -Lowering your compression data rate.
    -Closing open sequences.
-Lowering the preference for real time audio tracks.
-Increasing the speed of your system and/or disk drives and/or network connection.

I click ok, and I have tried turning off unlimited RT, but there isn’t such thing. Lowering compression data rate is something that should not be a problem, because I have tried some. (Or maybe Im doing it wrong?)

I had edited some stuff too and exported it. As a resulta I get the exported file, just as I had finished it, and now I try to re-edit it, and I basically have to do it all over again, because the audio is out of sync.

Does somebody have any insights on this? Should I reinstall FCP?

    I appreciate any help,

    TvK

[Jacob von Kreuz] “I’ve been getting a delay when playing back stuff on my timeline”

What stuff? What format of video are you working with? Where is it stored (media drive)?

also, what are your system specs? and, if you have it rendered into the right format it pretty much runs great

When I am editing a show reel it means that I have several formats.

In that case, what should specs be, so that I wont get stuck each time it changes clips?

It mostly get stuck when changing from/to clips that were filmed with a sony HD minicam, in MTS, then converted.

    My specs are:

    system settings/playback control
    RT Unlimited
    Frame Rate Half
    Video Quality Medium
Pulldown Pattern 2:3:2:3 (what is this?)
Frame offset: 4 (what is this?)
    Gamma correction: accurate

    Thank you,

    Hi Shane,

What I meant by stuff is the clips.

They’re all saved in this specific project files or imports folder.

Since it is a demoreel project, it is a multi format thing, meaning I have material from different cameras and very different formats, from mini dv to HQ, through MTS and betacam converted, which I assume is the reason why Im having playback and audio sync problems.

Thank you for your reply and I hope Im answering what you asked.

I meant system specs click the apple on top left corner, and click about this mac, and tell what it is, but you need to make sure that the mts files are actually imported from the camera into final cut with log and transfer and it will make it fit your project settings, and hopefully speed it up. if anything is unrendered, then it won’t playback well

    Oh, that.

    10.5.8
    2.5Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2Gb 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRam

Oh right, good to know that I can log and transfer also with MTS files!

I didn’t know that, so the files were converted from MTS into mp4.

Im going to reconvert anyway, cause it looks shitty.

Im trying other things as for the playback problem, which remains the same.

    Thank you

YOu have to convert everything to ONE codec. Choose one, convert everything to that. Yes, this might take a while, yes, some might not look all that good. If this is for an online reel, then maybe choose an SD seting, like DV or DV50.
