  • Which HD camera format best for standard def in FCP?

Posted by Brad Froman on May 12, 2010 at 1:03 am

I am shooting with Panasonic AJ-HDX900 and will ultimately output to standard def once I edit on FCP Studio 3. Any suggestions on the format and frame rate I should set on the camera that will serve standard def the best? Will probably go with a system setting of 1080i 60 (59.94) but I have a choice with “camera setting” of 60i, 30p, 24p, etc.

1080i60 runs at 29.97…so that might be a good bet. Same frame rate. Well, they all are, but 30p is progressive, and 24p is the film look, but it also runs at 29.97, just 24p with pulldown. So, do you want the video interlaced look, or progressive or film look?

    1080i is a 29.97 format primarily.
