I have been asked to output to mini DVCAM tape in PAL format. All footage is generated in After Effects.
I’m planing to load in to FCP and play out to tape. My local deck hire co has a DSR45 but I’ve read there may be problems with that.
Any suggestions on a primer on playing out to tape. Is timecode necessary etc? What codec should the project be in to ensure best quality without sticking during playback.
    Tanks for any help!

Render the Footage out of AE in PAL format.
Create a FCP project in PAL.

Make sure the deck will record PAL.

    Output to tape.

The deck will generate timecode for you.

Do u need slate and bars? Is it broadcast? Then ur start TC may have requirements.

It not only has to be in the PAL format, but it has to be in the DV/PAL format. That is the only way you can send a signal to a DV deck via firewire.
