  FCP keeps freezing

  For the last few days, my FCP keeps freezing on me. It happened yesterday when I was digging and today I just hit play on my sequence and it froze. No idea what prompted it, but I keep having to force quit and when I do that, the program closes but then in my dock, the dot remains next to the FCP icon, as if it is still open so I can’t reopen it until I restart or turn off computer.

  Any ideas? Please help! Just an add on — I am using an external drive for my media

  Is the option for hard drives going to sleep off in energy settings? If it is, I’d suggest trashing prefs.
