  • Quick DVD Export for Client?

I have a client who has documentary footage recorded on memory cards in native Qtime files. She does not want to watch them on the computer but instead prefers a dvd in chronological order. The camera was set to make a new clip every time it was paused so there are lots of short clips: a 20 minute event typically has 10 to 20 .mov files. I thought I would throw the files into a sequence in chronological order but because it’s HD the export time from a FCP sequence is really long, no matter which CODEC and/or quality I use.

Is there a faster way to do this? She wants to look at all of the raw footage.

    Thanks!

Do you have a Kona card on your box and do you have DVD Recorder? I do this all the time for my screenings. I set the Kona to send out a composite signal and turn on the read Quicktime timecode in the AJA control panel. I send the signal direct to the DVD recorder, that way while the client is screening the show I am making a DVD at the same time. You could do this as well without Timecode turned on in the AJA control panel and just drop the TC Reader plugin on all your clips. The downside to this is that it happens in real time, the upside is that it is faster than converting your footage to a DVD codec.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Jamie but I fear I didn’t make myself clear: I have more than 10 hours of raw HD footage that is in (often very) short native Qtime files. The director would like to log all of the raw footage herself using her dvd player and wants it in chronological order. What I am trying to figure out is if there is a way to do a faster export of the files in FCP. The quality doesn’t matter.

    Thanks!
