    Your example didn’t work.

if you have After Effects there is a posterize time filter. Dropping the framerate down to 12 or even lower might achieve the look you are trying to get. Alternately motion has a strobe filter that you may be able to achieve a similar look with.

Just noticed that the same strobe filter is available in fcp as well.

sorry here is the link. I found the strope effect in Final cut and it looks decent but I think I’ll try messing with the frame rate and see if i can get it smoother. Any tips on how to do that in FC. Do I have to change the frame rate of my whole time line?

    Thanks,

    Shea

yeah that link still isn’t working….you shouldn’t need to mess with the framerate of your timeline. Just mess with the parameters of the strobe effect.

I was just searching for the answer to this question myself and discovered that the Strobe filter does a pretty good job of basically just making your video a slow frame-rate. If you actually want to make it realistically like stop-motion, then that would take more effort. I was just going for a look of basically a series of still frames, and didn’t want to make them all manually. the strobe filter does exactly that, simple!

Hope that helps someone else. 🙂

    Regards,
    Chris

QHQ Stop motion is a script for after effects which works a treat!
