  • Coordinating audio and video speed changes while maintaining pitch

    Hello,

Simple workflow question, though i realize the answer may not be simple 🙂

I have a project where i will need to speed adjust all clips (silent film look) for editing. i want to maintain audio sync of dialogue even though it will be discarded at the end for a music track.

The director does not want to be annoyed by the change in pitch as he is doing a rough edit. is there anyway to preserve pitch in fcp as a linked video / audio tracks are speed adjusted?

Do i need to go to soundtrack pro? if yes any suggestions on the most convenient workflow?

    thanks

Given that you are only using the dialog as reference, try the pitch plugin in FCP. I wouldn’t recommend this for use as a final pitch conversion as it isn’t good but to avoid inconveniencing the director go right ahead.

Round tripping to STP is a pain compared to this. For serious pitch conversion you would need to OMF out to a serious audio system with MPEX3 or Pitch n Time.
